Dead code and orphaned elements

In a twenty-five-year-old undocumented database, we find what is dead: tables nothing feeds, tables nobody writes, and where a connection cannot be seen.

Transcript

A database built over twenty-five years has 1,800 tables, with no comments and no documentation. This video shows what is dead in it: which table nothing feeds, and which one nobody writes. From the schema and the 467 stored procedures, Legacy Explorer builds the map: what reads, what writes, and what connects to what.

It marks three kinds of findings: orphan tables that nothing feeds, tables that nobody writes, and procedures whose connections cannot be read. And better still: for 35 procedures it says outright that it cannot see the connection, because the query is built dynamically. That is how an undocumented database becomes a manageable system again.
